Monday 19 October 2015

On 9th, 12th and 13th October Save the Children Rwanda conducted a kick off workshop for the new health program, Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP).

During her opening remarks, Elisa Radisone, the Programme Director at Save the Children Rwanda welcomed all participants and reminded them that the workshop was meant to familiarize them with the new program before they started their work. She also acknowledged that the MSCP programme will increase the engagement of Save the Children in the health sector in Rwanda.

MCSP is a global USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high impact health interventions with the ultimate goal of ending preventable child and maternal deaths in Rwanda. The program focusses on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. To advance these critical newborn health interventions, MCSP emphasizes integration with maternal health services and the household-to-hospital continuum of care and community mobilization.

Besides the introduction to the different programs during the 3-days, participants were also engaged in different exercises including team work and creating activities to prepare them better for the new positions. At the end of the workshop, the facilitators urged the participants to always be creative in their work, and always work as a team to solve their problems as a team.

One of the participants, Gratia Uwizeye, the Community Mobilization/Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC), expressed her gratitude towards Save the Children for having organized the Kick off and Induction workshop.

“This workshop has given us an overview on Save the Children in general and the Maternal Child Survival Program, specifically. With this induction, we are now very well equipped and ready for work. We are now also aware of the Child Safeguarding protocols Save the Children expects of us.” – Gratia Uwizeye said.

Save the Children Rwanda expressed appreciation to Mieko McKay, the MCSP Senior Program Officer, and Kabore Telesphore, who doubles as the Community Mobilization Advisor at Save the Children and MCSP Community Health Advisor, the facilitators of the 3-day workshop for their technical advice and contributions.

By the end of the kick off and induction workshop, all the participants were excited about their engagement with the MSCP programme and eager to contribute to its success.
