Save the Children is committed to support the Government of Rwanda to fulfil its obligation towards the realization of the rights of girls and boys with and without disabilities. This is done through different ways that include strengthening the Rwandan legal and policy framework, strengthening child rights and child protection systems, monitoring child rights with children, working on public investment in children, engaging and strengthening the capacity of the civil society actors including children to engage the government on matters that affect children and lead evidence-based advocacy

Reuniting Children and Families - Faith's Story

In 2015, Burundian refugees fled to Rwanda and other countries in the region. Since then, Save the Children has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response protecting children from harm in Mahama Camp. In Kirehe District, Save the Children delivers child protection interventions and case management for at risk children including those involved in incidents of child neglect, physical abuse, sexual exploitation and child defilement. Most survivors of abuse need long-term solutions. Save the Children and its stakeholders meet in the best interest determination panel to discuss child abuse cases and response plan

Every child needs a safe space to play, learn, socialize and express themselves - Shalome's Story

Shalome, 14, lives in Mahama Refugee Camp and creates art to sensitize his community on COVID-19 as part of an awareness campaign. With this aim, Shalome,was spotted drawing with a pencil at one of Save the Children’s Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) on June 4, 2020. Since 2015, Save the Children has operated a CFS in Mahama Refugee Camp to give children a protected environment to play, learn, socialize, and express themselves. As of February 2020, before measures were put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19, 8,625 children attended the CFS.
